Classic Diamond Kent Sonja
My name is Sonja and I was born in Kent and I am 50 years young!
I am a mother of two beautiful girls; Sofia 18 and Mylie 10 and I am a Co Director my business which specializes in Environmentally friendly disposal of clinical waste. I have been trading for 11 years and over this time I have won various business accolades for the work I have done to promote and encourage businesses to protect the planet for our children’s future. I was the first independent company to recycle nappies; diverting them away from landfill, as the average nappy takes 500 years to break down in landfill.
I also work with the Institute of Directors to empower young women into senior management-roles. I am currently working on a pilot scheme to get young women who have escaped from Siria after being abused and experiencing terrible atrocities, into work to rebuild their lives. I have been chosen as a Kent Ambassador and I visit different charities every month looking at how we can help them with the problems they face from a business perspective.
In my business we also support a few charities including the local children’s hospice where we service free of charge. Some of the other charities I have supported are Abigail’s footsteps ( still birth charity) Fields of life ( raised £8000 to build a well for families in Uganda for clean water and to be maintained for the next 20 years) I am girl ( charity to empower girls into going to school and avoiding being married as a child and saving them from human sacrifice ) I donate clothes and shoes. East Kent Headway ( brain injury charity) fundraising events Demelza House Children’s hospice Porchlight ( charity to get people off the streets ) arranging a promotional film for them free of charge.
In my spare time I am learning to play the saxophone and have just completed my grade 1 Jazz exam. As a mother I have supported my daughters through their pageant journey, I want to show other women of my age that it’s never too late and enjoy the experience with my daughter by my side.
